Paolo Marolo named President of the Consortium for Piedmont Grappa and Grappa di Barolo: artisanal Grappa looks to the global stage

Alba, March 2026 – Paolo Marolo, founder and driving force behind our distillery, has been elected President of the Consorzio Tutela Grappa del Piemonte e Grappa di Barolo. His appointment marks an important moment for Piedmont’s most distinctive spirit. The Consortium – based in Asti and bringing together 21 regional distilleries – will now be led by one of the most respected figures in Italian artisanal grappa, a producer who for nearly fifty years has safeguarded and helped shape this tradition.

Paolo succeeds Carlo Beccaris and takes the helm of an organization with deep roots. Founded in 1993 as the Istituto Grappa Piemonte, the Consortium assumed its current structure in 2017 and was officially registered with the Asti Chamber of Commerce on October 18 of that year. Since then, it has served as the main institutional body dedicated to protecting and promoting Piedmontese grappas with geographical indication.

“Our goal is to position Grappa di Barolo and Piedmontese grappas among the great international spirits, strengthening communication that increasingly looks toward global markets. We want to build a narrative that can also speak to younger audiences, using a fresh and contemporary language capable of reaching new consumers. At the same time, careful oversight and promotion of the production chain will remain central, helping to raise the overall quality of the product.”

A life devoted to grappa

Born in 1946, Paolo founded our distillery in Alba in 1977 after a path that combined research, teaching and a deep passion for the art of distillation. His first grappas were created as teaching exercises in the laboratories of the Regia Scuola Enologica di Alba, before evolving into an artisanal project of excellence that today he shares with his son Lorenzo.

Marolo personally oversees every stage of the distillation process, guided by the combination of experience, sensitivity and deep connection to the territory that has always defined our house.

The role of the Consortium

The Consorzio Tutela Grappa del Piemonte e Grappa di Barolo works on several fronts: safeguarding the economic, cultural and traditional value of the denominations, addressing regulatory and fiscal matters, and promoting the production chain both in Italy and abroad. It organizes educational initiatives and events, maintains relations with public institutions, and manages research and data related to the sector.

With this appointment, we place our vision at the service of the entire production chain, with the hope that Piedmontese grappa will gain the recognition it deserves on the international stage while remaining firmly rooted in the land and the people who produce it.
