Marolo x The Arbory Gin – The Riviera dei Fiori in Every Sip

    •    Stories    •    No comments

At Marolo, distilling has never been just about transforming ingredients – it’s about capturing the spirit of a place. Every scent, every flavor, every essence tells a story of the land it comes from.

At the heart of this philosophy is collaboration: working with those who, like us, share a passion for honoring nature and its bounty. That’s what led us to team up with The Arbory Gin, a project born from the vision of Marco Bertucci, a Ligurian bar manager with a stellar track record in some of the world’s most exclusive destinations.

After mastering his craft in St. Barth, the Côte d’Azur, and Monaco, Marco returned home to Liguria with a dream: to create a gin that captures the Riviera dei Fiori’s unique biodiversity. In 2020, he set that plan into motion, and after two years of development – supported by Marolo’s expertise – The Arbory Gin came to life. Now distributed internationally, it’s an ode to the Riviera and its natural splendor.

We sat down with Marco to learn more about his vision and how this partnership came to be.

Marco, tell us about The Arbory Gin. How did the idea come to life, and what drew you to Marolo?

The Arbory Gin is all about celebrating the beauty and richness of Liguria, especially the Riviera dei Fiori. We were inspired by the Hanbury Gardens – a breathtaking botanical garden in Ventimiglia, created in the 19th century by Sir Thomas Hanbury. It’s famous for its stunning array of tropical and subtropical plants from all over the world.

We wanted to capture the essence of this magical place and translate it into a gin that reflects its complexity and beauty.

Partnering with Marolo was a no-brainer. We’ve always admired Lorenzo and Paolo’s approach to distilling. They’re laser-focused on showcasing the raw quality of their ingredients and staying true to the spirit of the land. That same care and precision were exactly what we wanted for The Arbory Gin.

What sets The Arbory Gin apart?

At its core, gin is about juniper – but the botanicals are what make it shine.

For The Arbory Gin, we chose ten botanicals that represent the rich biodiversity of the Hanbury Gardens. Think myrtle, Bulgarian rose, angelica, and our standout ingredient: Vallebona Orange Blossom Water, a Slow Food-certified product. It gives the gin a delicate, floral aroma that’s pure Liguria in a bottle.

The juniper forms the backbone, but we’ve balanced it with citrusy, floral notes that make The Arbory Gin incredibly versatile – perfect for cocktails or sipping neat. It’s fresh, complex, and layered, just like the Riviera dei Fiori itself.

How has it been received so far?

We couldn’t be happier with the response. Bartenders love its versatility, and they’ve told us it opens up endless possibilities for creating cocktails. Its flavor profile is bold yet balanced, so it complements other ingredients without overpowering them.

What’s next for The Arbory Gin and your partnership with Marolo?

Working with Marolo has been key to bringing our vision to life. Together, we’ve crafted something that not only honors tradition but pushes it in new directions.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to keep exploring. We’ve got plenty of ideas brewing and can’t wait to see where this partnership takes us. It’s all about staying true to the land, celebrating its richness, and reimagining what’s possible.
