Grappa di Barolo 2010 “Mizunara”, the ageing of a bond

After its exclusive debut in Japan — with launch events in Tokyo, Hosaka, and Fukuoka in spring 2025 — the new Grappa di Barolo 2010 Mizunara is now officially available.
This limited-edition release brings together distant origins — of grapes, oak, and perspective. It’s made from Nebbiolo da Barolo harvested in 2010, a standout vintage in the Langhe, known for its balance and elegance.
The grappa aged for eleven years in European oak, then continued its evolution in two rare Mizunara casks — 水楢, the “water oak” found in Japan’s humid forests.

Porous, unpredictable, and notoriously difficult to work with, Mizunara imparts a distinctive aromatic profile: notes of incense, coconut, green tea, pepper, and sweet spice. A wood that rewards time and patience — just like grappa.
The interplay between these two oaks becomes a study in balance and nuance – a slow-matured bond with Japan, rooted in shared tradition and trust, cultivated since the 1980s.
Grappa di Barolo 2010 Mizunara is a limited release of 1,980 numbered bottles, featuring label art by Japanese artist Hakuyu Watanabe.
